7 Day Challenge - Positive Affirmations

Do you ever take note of positive social media posts? Maybe you follow inspiring pages, or you have friends who repost quotes from those pages. Well, as you must know, these daily reminders or ‘affirmations’ can make you feel really good! They can also make you question your current situation and inspire you to upgrade from where you are now.

An affirmation is a positive statement that will help you overcome negative thoughts. When you repeat them often, and believe in them, then you can start to make some really positive changes in your life!

They are so much more than just feel good quotes though, you can use them as a tool to uplift, encourage and accomplish anything imaginable!

It is important to know that reciting positive affirmations will not, in itself, change your circumstances. However, they can absolutely change the way you think and help you overcome limiting beliefs. Most people use them to boost their confidence and self-esteem. They can also help you stay on track when you are reaching your goals!

When you learn how to speak to yourself positively, your self-image will start to naturally improve. As a result, you will notice that you act differently, which will inevitably start shifting your life in a positive way.

The quality of your thoughts create the quality of your life

As humans, we are always so hard on ourselves…

“I should have done this, I could have done that”.

We constantly beat ourselves up if we don’t accomplish what we want to in the day, or if we missed the gym for the 3rd time this week. Or that feeling of regret after eating a delicious chocolate brownie.

The truth is we are our own worst critics. We can have some pretty negative thoughts roaming through our minds everyday.

Becoming aware of this creates choice!

You can reverse your negative self talk!

We can literally start training our brains to think differently. One of the easiest tools for self development is the use of a few, simple, magical words. This is known as a positive affirmation!

7 DAY CHALLENGE

Everyday, for 7 days, repeat three or four positive affirmations as many times as you remember throughout the day! Set alarms to remember! Do it with a friend!

Affirmations are the most powerful stated out loud. You are basically giving instructions to the universe to support you. If you must repeat them in your head, you will absolutely still reap the benefits.

There are a few components of a successful affirmation:

  1. MUST BE STATED IN PRESENT TENSE

Your brain only knows whats going on right here right now. So it is key to state your affirmation in present tense as if you are already experiencing it. For example say “I AM an amazing teacher, my students LOVE me” instead of “I will be an amazing teacher and my students will love me”.

  2. MUST USE POSITIVE WORDS

It is actually a longer process that your brain has to go through in order to transform ‘negative’ statements into positive ones. When you are creating your affirmation, just be mindful when you are choosing your words! For example choose the words “I am always on time” instead of “I am never late”. You will want to avoid words like “don’t”, “can’t” or “won’t” in your affirmations as your brain sees them as ‘negative’ words.

  3. FOCUS ON CREATING A STATEMENT OF FACT OR TRUTH

It is much more empowering to use the words “am” and “do” instead of “might” or “could”. And I know it may feel silly stating these if you don’t 100% believe them... but that is exactly why we are training our brains! To rehearse that these affirmations are true until they BECOME true! And that leads to the next component.

  4. REPEAT YOUR AFFIRMATIONS AND STAY CONSISTENT

Repeating anything helps your brain start rewiring its old, negative thoughts with positive ones, and will become second nature, like driving a vehicle or riding a bike. It is a little awkward at first, but once you learn, you hardly even have to think about it! It just becomes a part of you. Same goes for affirmations! When you continually repeat positive statements to yourself, you are opening up a new belief system and are rewiring the connections in your brain to what you perceive as true! Positive affirmations require regular practice if you want to make long lasting changes.

You get it?

GREAT! Now go write out two or three of your own affirmations or pick from the list below and repeat them as many times as you can daily for 7 DAYS!

Remember, this is a personal challenge. You don’t have to tell anyone if you don’t want to! But it can definitely make it a lot more fun doing it with a friend or a loved one. In fact, when we do challenges with someone else, we have a source of accountability which will make it a lot easier to follow through and complete.

Below I have listed quite a few different affirmations that you can use or modify to fit your specific goal or intention. It is encouraged to stick to the specific formula shown above to get the most out of this amazing practice!
